Where the Ugly Dumpling restaurants are
Most people searching for an Ugly Dumpling near them already know roughly where they want to eat. The chain is thickest around New York City and northern New Jersey and runs down the I-95 corridor to Richmond. 10 of the 18 coming-soon restaurants are in Texas, Florida, the South and the Midwest, and the rest include the first ones in Pennsylvania and Rhode Island.
Long Island, the Bronx and Westchester
The Ugly Dumpling in Levittown at 3535 Hempstead Turnpike is the single most searched location, and the natural choice for most of Nassau County. A second Nassau restaurant is coming soon in New Hyde Park on Union Turnpike, which will be closer for Lake Success and eastern Queens. Further east, the Smith Haven Mall restaurant in Lake Grove serves Smithtown and the rest of Suffolk County. In the city, the Bronx location inside the Mall at Bay Plaza is the only one in the five boroughs, while Yonkers and White Plains are closest to the Scarsdale restaurant on Central Park Avenue.
New Jersey, where it all started
New Jersey has more restaurants than any other state. The first one opened in Edison on US-1, and the Route 22Route 22 restaurant in Springfield sits on the Union line, so it serves both towns. Linden on West Edgar Road is a few minutes south. Morris County diners, including anyone searching from Parsippany, should head to Morris Plains on Route 10. Along the shore, the Holmdel Express on NJ-35 is listed as a smaller Express format, and South Jersey has Delran on US-130. Clifton on Kingsland Road is coming soon.
Connecticut, Massachusetts and Rhode Island
New Haven County is served by the Hamden restaurant on Dixwell Avenue, the one open restaurant in southern New England today. The rest of the region is still coming: Plainville near Hartford, Seekonk, Massachusetts on Fall River Avenue, and Rhode Island's first, in Cranston on Chapel View Boulevard. Seekonk and Cranston sit on opposite sides of Providence, so once both open, Providence diners will have a choice.
Pennsylvania, Delaware, Maryland and Virginia
Pennsylvania's first restaurant is coming soon in Bala Cynwyd on City Avenue, right on the Philadelphia line. The Newark, Delaware restaurant on East Main Street is an easy stop from I-95. In Maryland, the Bowie location serves Prince George's County, the Frederick Express is on Buckeystown Pike, and White Marsh in Nottingham is coming soon on the Baltimore side. Columbia, Maryland has no restaurant, so diners there are between Bowie and White Marsh. Virginia has Willow Lawn in Richmond and the Fair Oaks Mall restaurant in Fairfax, with Virginia Beach coming soon for Hampton Roads.
Texas, Florida, the South and the Midwest
This is where most of the growth is. Austin at The Arboretum is the one open restaurant in the region. Everything else is coming soon: Allen in the Dallas suburbs, New Tampa and Kissimmee and Gainesville in Florida, New Orleans on Poydras Street, Columbia, South Carolina, Louisville, Wichita, West Des Moines and a first Illinois restaurant in Chicago on South Archer Avenue. There is nothing on the West Coast, so anyone searching from Vancouver will not find a restaurant nearby.

Ugly Dumpling is a Shanghai-style dumpling restaurant chain known for xiao long bao, the soup dumplings filled with pork, chicken or crab and hot broth. The first restaurant opened in Edison, New Jersey in 2023, with an open kitchen the brand calls the Bao Lab, where you can watch dumplings being folded.
Around the soup dumplings sits a full Chinese comfort-food menu: dim sum, wontons in chili oil, dan dan style and beef noodles, ramen, wok dishes, fried rice and a long boba list. Ugly Dumpling has been opening restaurants quickly, and the dates move. Delran opened in February 2026 as the chain's South Jersey restaurant, and Springfield on Route 22 followed in the spring. In Florida, New Tampa was under construction in mid 2026, and it is still listed as coming soon, with Kissimmee and Gainesville behind it. Allen, Texas was aiming for early fall 2026 and has not opened yet either.

Those five are vegan on the menu we compiled. Scallion pancakes, egg fried rice and cucumber salad are vegetarian. Gluten free is harder, because wrappers, noodles and soy sauce usually contain wheat, so the vegetarian, vegan and gluten guide lists the questions to ask before you order.
